NZICC Update October 2018

The primary structure of the NZICC is taking shape. Internal works have begun and the theatre is underway, as is the loading dock, the kitchens, the offices and the changing rooms.

The construction of the NZICC has already used the equivalent of approximately 12 Sky Towers of concrete and structural steel. That’s more than 7,300 tonnes of structural steel, a further 330 tonnes of secondary steel, more than 173,000m3 of concrete, and 17,000 litres of paint.

  • The theatre base for the seating is progressing, which gives shape and form to the theatre and an appreciation of its size and scale. This theatre will have the capacity to seat 2,850 people and will be New Zealand’s largest theatre.
  • The spine gallery steel is scheduled to arrive shortly which, on installation, will connect the spine gallery to the main structure.
  • The lifts have the second largest design capacity in the world, rated to carry up to 11.2 tonnes each and objects up to 3 metres.

More than 20 conferences have been confirmed and there are more than 250 in the sales pipeline.
